Let \(\{T_\varepsilon\}\) be a family of operators such that the limit \(\lim_{\varepsilon\to 0} T_\varepsilon f= Tf\) exists in some sense. The \(\rho\)-variation operator is defined by \[ v_\rho(Tf)(x)= \sup_{\varepsilon_i\searrow 0}\,\Biggl(\sum^\infty_{i=1} |T_{\varepsilon_i}f(x)- T_{\varepsilon_{i+ 1}}f(x)|^\rho\Biggr)^{1/\rho}, \] where the supremum is taken over all sequences \(\{\varepsilon_i\}\) that are decreasing to zero. Similarly, the oscillation operator \(O(Tf)(x)\) is defined by \[ O(Tf)(x)= \Biggl\{\sum^\infty_{i=1} \sup_{t_{i+1}\leq \varepsilon_{i+1}< \varepsilon_i\leq t_i}|T_{\varepsilon_i}f(x)- T_{\varepsilon_{i+1}} f(x)|^2\Biggr\}^{1/2}, \] where \(\{t_i\}\) is a fixed sequence decreasing to zero. In this article, the authors study the oscillation and the \(\rho\)-variation of the Hilbert transform and of the Riesz transforms \(R^\pm\) associated with the harmonic oscillator. It was proved in a previous paper [\textit{J. T. Campbell}, \textit{R. L. Jones}, \textit{K. Reinhold} and \textit{M. Wierdl}, Duke Math. J. 105, No. 1, 59--83 (2000; Zbl 1013.42008)] that the oscillation and the \(\rho\)-variation of the Hilbert transform, \(v_\rho(Hf)(x)\), \(O(Hf)(x)\), \(\rho> 2\) are bounded on \(L^p(\mathbb{R})\) for all \(1< p<\infty\) and from \(L^1(\mathbb{R})\) into \(L^{1,\infty}(\mathbb{R})\). The main results in the reviewed paper are to extend the above result to the weight cases for the operators \(v_\rho(Hf)(x)\), \(O(Hf)(x)\), \(v_\rho(R^\pm f)(x)\), \(O(R^\pm f)(x)\), with \(\rho> 2\).
