    This paper is mainly devoted to the introduction of Sobolev spaces \(H_{k}^{p(\cdot)}(M)\) with variable integrability on compact Riemannian manifolds. As in the Euclidean setting, the authors establish Sobolev-type embeddings both into variable Lebesgue spaces and into variable order Hölder spaces, by assuming the \(\log\)-Hölder continuity on the exponent. The authors also discuss the compactness of such embeddings and as an application they derive a Poincaré inequality in this general framework, which in turn is used to study a PDE problem involving the \(p(x)\)-Laplacian.
