Let \(k\) be field of characteristic \(\neq 2,3\). Assume that \(k\) contains more than 11 elements, and let \(K\) be an algebraic field extension of \(k\). The present paper describes subgroups of the general linear group \(GL_7(K)\) that contain the Chevalley group \(G_2(k)\).
