The epimorphisms between Moufang planes have been determined by \textit{L. A. Skornyakov} [Mat. Sb., Nov. Ser. 43(85), 285--294 (1958; Zbl 0079.36301)], \textit{J. Andre} [Abh. Math. Semin. Univ. Hamb. 34, 98--114 (1969; Zbl 0186.54402)] and \textit{J. R. Faulkner} and \textit{J. C. Ferrar} [Geom. Dedicata 14, 215--223 (1983; Zbl 0529.51005)]. The paper under review completes the classification of all type-preserving epimorphisms between thick irreducible spherical Moufang buildings of rank at least \(2\). In view of the results, in [\textit{K. Struyve}, Adv. Math. 232, No. 1, 368--398 (2013; Zbl 1263.20029)] the only remaining case are the polar spaces \(\mathsf{BC}_l(K, K_0, \sigma, L, q)\) of pseudo-quadratic type; here \(K\) is a skew field. For this case, the authors prove that every epimorphism corresponds to a total subring \(R\) of \(K\) and a left coset \(sR^\times\in K^\times/ R^\times\) with special properties.
