From the authors' abstract: The \(S\)-functional calculus is a functional calculus for \((n+1)\)-tuples of not necessarily commuting operators. Associated with the \(S\)-functional calculus there are two resolvent operators: the left \(S_{L}^{-1} (s,T)\) and the right \(S_{R}^{-1} (s,T)\), where \(s=(s_{0} ,s_{1} ,\dots{},s_{n} )\in {\mathbb R}^{n+1} \) and \(T=(T_{0} ,T_{1} ,\dots{},T_{n} )\) is an \((n+1)\) tuple of noncommuting operators. The two resolvents satisfy two \(S\)-resolvent equations: \(S_{L}^{-1} (s,T){\kern 1pt} s-T{\kern 1pt} S_{L}^{-1} (s,T)=I\) and \(sS_{R}^{-1} (s,T){\kern 1pt} -{\kern 1pt} S_{R}^{-1} (s,T)T=I\), where \(I\) is the identity operator. In this paper, the authors prove a new single resolvent equation which involves both the left and the right resolvent equations simultaneously, and discuss its properties.
