Let \(\mathbb{K}\) denote the Klein bottle and let \(\mathrm{Diff}(\mathbb{K})\) be the group of diffeomorphisms of \(\mathbb{K}\). Let \(\mathrm{Diff}_0(\mathbb{K})\) denote the identity component of \(\mathrm{Diff}(\mathbb{K})\) and let \(\Gamma (\mathbb{K})\) be the mapping class group of \(\mathbb{K}\) defined by \(\Gamma(\mathbb{K})=\mathrm{Diff}(\mathbb{K})/\mathrm{Diff}_0(\mathbb{K})\). Since there is an isomorphism \(\Gamma (\mathbb{K})\cong \mathbb{Z}_2\times \mathbb{Z}_2\), there is a fibration sequence \[ B\mathrm{Diff}_0(\mathbb{K})\to B\mathrm{Diff}(\mathbb{K})\to B(\mathbb{Z}_2\times \mathbb{Z}_2)\leqno{(1)} \] where \(BG\) denotes the classifying space of a group \(G\). It follows from the results due to Earle-Eells and Gramain that the natural inclusion \(SO(2)\subset \mathrm{Diff}_0(\mathbb{K})\) is a homotopy equivalence, and the above sequence (1) reduces the fibration sequence \[ \mathbb{C}\mathrm{P}^{\infty}\to B\mathrm{Diff}(\mathbb{K})\to B(\mathbb{Z}_2\times \mathbb{Z}_2)\leqno{(2)} \] In this paper, the authors study the Serre spectral sequence of (2) and they prove that it collapses by using explicit computations of group cohomology. Next, by using the analysis of the generators of \(\Gamma (\mathbb{K})\), they prove that the inclusion \(\mathbb{Z}_2\times O(2)\subset \mathrm{Diff}(\mathbb{K})\) is a homotopy equivalence, and that there is a homotopy equivalence \(B\mathrm{Diff}(\mathbb{K})\simeq B(\mathbb{Z}_2)\times BO(2)\). Finally they give direct and concrete constructions for the Eilenberg-MacLane spaces \(K(\Gamma^q(\mathbb{K}),1)\), where \(\mathrm{Diff}(\mathbb{K},q)\) denotes the group of diffeomorphims of \(\mathbb{K}\) which leaves a fixed set of \(q\) distinct points invariant and \(\Gamma^q(\mathbb{K})=\pi_0(\mathrm{Diff}(\mathbb{K},q)).\)
