The purpose of this paper is to apply matrix Fourier filters to nonlinear optical systems. First, the mathematical theory of matrix Fourier filters, i.e. complex infinite matrices, Hilbert and Banach spaces, are outlined. Several operator theorems are proved, and then a parabolic functional-differential equation is solved by using Fourier series. An important theorem states the global Lipschitz condition, and thus the existence of a unique solution to this equation. Another theorem states the unique solution to the adjoint problem. Finally, the control problem of the filter is studied by functional analysis technique. The proofs use Lebesgue theorem, Parseval formula, Gagliardi-Nirenberg, Gronvall and Cauchy-Schwarz inequalities.
