This interesting article provides a complete local and global bifurcation analysis for the McKean-Vlasov equation on the torus, that is \[ \partial_t \rho=\beta^{-1}\Delta\rho +k \nabla\cdot(\rho \nabla W\star \rho). \] The interest of this equation is that it contains an integral term, given by the convolution of the solution with the potential \(W\). Moreover, such equation covers a large number of relevant sub-cases that are treated in the article (e.g. the noisy Kuramoto model or the Hegselmann-Krause model). The authors study convergence to steady states and bifurcations with respect to the parameters \(\beta,k,W\), where the interaction potential \(W\) is even. Results are based on fine study of the Fourier modes of the potential, see e.g. simplified statements for the 1-D circle in Theorems 1.1 and 1.3.
