The authors consider the algorithm for solving 3D problems of gravitational segregation of water and oil in a porous medium. The specificity of this class of problems lies in the fact that the directions of phase velocities do not coincide with the direction of the total flow velocity. This algorithm combins the HU (Hybrid Upwind) method and the IMPES (Implicit in Pressure and Explicit in Saturation) method. The use of an explicit scheme requires the study of its monotonicity. As a result, an algorithm producing relevant numerical results including the case of presence of strong discontinuities in the solution is constructed. One of the main feature of the algorithm presented is that the explicit scheme is simple in implementation and gives a small dispersion of solutions on discontinuities. Some numerical tests are presented to illustrate the monotonicity of the method considered in this paper.
