The authors consider a three-layer model consisting of a piezo-poroelastic (PP) half space overlain by a transversely isotropic piezoelectric composite material layer in the presence of a functionally graded buffer layer to account for possible imperfect bonding between the upper layer and the half space. The medium above the upper layer is considered to be electrically conducting air so that the electric potential satisfies the Laplace equation. The governing equations of the SH waves in the upper layer are those of the SH waves in the electrically conducting transversely isotropic elastic material. The mechanics of the buffer layer is assumed to be governed by the constitutive equations and equation of motion of a functionally graded material. The governing equations for the PP half space are those of pore-fluid material for elastic stress and corresponding electric field. The dispersion relation of SH wave travelling in x-direction is obtained using the power series method in all three layers. The obtained results are validated by considering special cases.
