The authors study solutions of the transmission eigen-value problem applied to both the scalar Helmholtz equation and Maxwell's equations. They prove the existence of solutions and analyze their properties in the case of Helmholtz equation for spherically stratified media as well as for inhomogeneous anisotropic media, and for Maxwell's equations assuming the case of anisotropic electric permittivity and constant magnetic permeability.
