For Lagrangian systems on a closed manifold \(M\) the author links the differentiability of Mather's \(s\)-function with the topological complexity of the complement of the Aubry set. The obtained results allow to prove the two-dimensional case of a conjecture by \textit{R. Mané} [Nonlinearity 9, 273-310 (1996; Zbl 0886.58037)].
