The authors describe a new method for investigatig the properties of distributive laminar mixing in two-dimensional creeping flows, by considering a periodic Stokes flow in an annular wedge cavity. The flow is induced by a motion of the top and bottom curved walls, with prescribed velocities. The authors obtain an analytical solution for velocity field in the cavity, and also develop an algorithm for line tracking which conserves topological properties of any closed contour. On the other hand, an interesting technique of finding periodic points in the flow is presented, together with quantitative measures for the estimation of the quality of mixing at any instant.
