A nonlinear biharmonic equation that is related to the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation and its finite element approximation by the reduced Hsieh-Clough-Tocher element is considered. An error estimate is provided for sufficiently small Reynolds numbers or sufficiently small right hand side. The authors discuss an iterative solver for two purposes. It is a Schwarz method for domain decomposition with overlap and a fixed-point iteration with respect to the nonlinearity. For this reason, convergence can be verified also only for sufficiently small Reynolds numbers.
