The authors prove various results on ovoids of \(Q(6,q)\) and \(Q(4,q)\), the parabolic quadrics in, respectively, 6- and 4-dimensional projective space over the finite field of \(q\) elements. These results go from very well known ``folklore'' to constructing a new ovoid in \(Q(4,3^5)\). To the first category belongs the fact that \(Q(6,q)\) admits a unique ovoid with an automorphism group isomorphic to \(PSU_3(q)\). Other results include the calculation of the -- previously not explicitly known -- stabilizers of all known \(Q(4,q)\) ovoids. Finally a new ovoid of \(Q(4,3^5)\) is presented in algebraic form, as a result of an intensive computer search. The related spread of \(PG(3,3^5)\) and trauslation plane of order \(3^{10}\) are presented, and their automorphism groups are calculated. Note that in the meantime, \textit{L. Bader}, \textit{G. Lunardon} and \textit{I. Pinneri} [J. Comb. Theory, Ser. A 86, No. 1, 49-62 (1999; Zbl 0937.51005)] have calculated the flock of a quadratic cone that corresponds with the new ovoid, using the general method given by \textit{J. A. Thas} [Discrete Math. 174, No. 1-3, 329-336 (1997; Zbl 0904.51001)]. The corresponding generalized quadrangle and its translation dual have remarkable properties.
