Given a net \(\{X_{\alpha}\}_{\alpha \in A}\) of subsets of a topological normal space \(X\) the author considers nets of functions \[ \{F^{\alpha}: X_{\alpha} \to \overline{\mathbb R} \}_{{\alpha} \in A}, \] as well as the nets of corresponding constrained minimization problems \[ \{\langle\inf_{x \in X_{\alpha}}F^{\alpha}(x)\rangle, {\alpha} \in A \}. \] For such nets the notions of the strong and absolute variational \(S\)-limits are introduced which are related to the notions of the lower and upper variational \(S\)-limits defined in an earlier paper by the same author. Since all these limits are very close to the well-known \(\Gamma\)-limits defined by De Giorgi and Franzoni, the author concentrates on the construction of \(\Gamma\)-representations for \(S\)-limits of nets of functions and for variational \(S\)-limits of the corresponding constrained minimization problems. This representation may provide a constructive foundation for the development of appropriately defined averaged optimal control problems as it is illustrated by an example quoted at the end of the paper.
