The author investigates existence and uniqueness of solutions of equations involving iterates of an unknown function \(g\), in particular equations of the type \[ (g(x))^{\lambda_1}(g^2(x))^{\lambda_1}\cdots (g^n(x))^{\lambda_n}=G(x) \] on the positive reals. This is accomplished through a series of results which, among other things, allows the author to reduce the problem to solve a polynomial-like equation of iterates of the form \[ \lambda_1f(x)+\lambda_2f^2(x)+\cdots+\lambda_nf^n(x)=F(x) \] on the real line. Using some logarithmic functions the author can then come back to the original problem. In the case of \(\lambda_1>0, \lambda_k\geq 0\), for \(k=2,3,\ldots n\), \( \sum_{k=1}^n\lambda_k=1\) the author finds sufficient conditions for the existence and uniqueness of a differentiable solution \(f\) of the second equation which in turn is used to prove the existence and uniqueness of a differentiable solution \(g\) of the first equation. The paper concludes with some examples and remarks on various special cases.
