A large scale structure \(\mathcal{L}\) on a set \(X\) is a nonempty collection of families of subsets of \(X\) (which are called uniformly bounded families) satisfying the following conditions: (1) \(\mathcal{B}_1 \in \mathcal{L}\) implies \(\mathcal{B}_2 \in \mathcal{L}\) if each element of \(\mathcal{B}_2\) consisting of more than one point is contained in some element of \(\mathcal{B}_1\). (2) \(\mathcal{B}_1, \mathcal{B}_2 \in \mathcal{L}\) implies the star \( \text{st} (\mathcal{B}_1, \mathcal{B}_2) \in \mathcal{L}\). A hybrid large scale space is a set \(X\) equipped with a large scale structure and a topology such that there is a uniformly bounded cover of \(X\) which consists of open sets. The authors define all concepts related to large scale spaces. Some of them are `coarse component', `weakly bounded', `scale connected', `slowly oscillating', `large scale continuous', `large scale equivalence', `coarsely surjective', `coarse embedding', `coarse neighbourhood operator'. Some of the section headings are: Hybrid large scale Urysohn's lemma; hls-normal spaces; Non-normal spaces; The Tietze extension theorem; The Higson compactification and corona; Hybrid structures induced by compactifications; Topological groups as hls-spaces; Coarse neighbourhoods and ls-structures.
