The subject of the paper is a coupled phase oscillator network with weighted coupling \[ \frac{d\theta_j}{dt} = \omega_j + c\sum_{i=1}^N \frac{a_{ij}}{d_{ij}^\alpha} \sin (\theta_j -\theta_i),\quad j=1,\dots,N, \quad \alpha>0. \] Here, the distance between the nodes \(i\) and \(j\) is given as \(d_{ij}=\max\{ 1,\min\{ | i-j| ,| i+N-j| \} \}\), which corresponds to the ring ordering, \(a_{ij}\) is either 1 or 0, and \(\omega_j\) are randomly distributed frequencies. The authors study numerically phase synchronization in such networks in the case of scale-free and small-world topology. In particular, they notice that the density of long-range edges improves the synchronization.
