In this paper the authors continue their programme of studying approach frames. The main theme now is the notion of compactness. In approach spaces the most natural intrinsic notion of compactness, which has been characterized in various ways [\textit{E. Colebunders, R. Lowen} and \textit{P. Wuyts}, ``A Kuratowski-Mrówka theorem in approach theory'', Topology Appl. 153, No. 5--6, 756--766 (2005; Zbl 1101.18002)], is so-called 0-compactness. In the present paper the authors introduce and explore a notion of compactness in the more general setting of approach frames, which yields a Heine-Borel-type characterization for 0-compactness in the special case of approach spaces. Dualizing the Heine-Borel property it turns out that compactness can also be characterized by means of a special type of ideals (called small ideals). Then the authors characterize Hausdorffness for approach frames, making use of the notion of (closed quotient, dense)-factorizations, and study some fundamental properties of compact Hausdorff approach frames.
