A KT-nearfield is a structure \((F,+,\cdot,\sigma)\) where \((F,+,\cdot)\) is a nearfield and \(\sigma \in Aut(F^*,\cdot)\) satisfies \(\sigma (1-x)=1- \sigma (1-\sigma (x))\) for all \(x\in F^*\setminus \{1\}\). The kernel \(K=\{k\in F :\) \((a+b)\cdot k=a\cdot k+b\cdot k\) for all a,b\(\in F\}\), the distributivity law in F holding generally only in the other direction, is a subfield of \((F,+,\cdot)\). It follows that F forms a vector space over K, whence one can define the rank of F as its K-dimension. The present paper is concerned with KT-nearfields of rank 2. These nearfields, provided their characteristic differs from 2, are necessarily Dickson nearfields coupled to quadratic field extensions, with a two-element Dickson group. Nearfields of rank 2 other than Dickson nearfields are a construction for which \textit{H. Zassenhaus} [Result. Math. 5, 132-145 (1985; Zbl 0591.20017); Result.
