The paper deals with Bean's critical state model for the description of the electromagnetic field in superconductors. First, the author obtains an existence and uniqueness result for the corresponding initial-boundary value problem. Next, he derives and justifies a variational inequality that is quasi-stationary on a part of the spatial domain. The main results concern the existence, uniqueness and asymptotic behavior as \(t\to\infty\) for the quasi-static system.
