Assume that \(X\) is an Orlicz function space equipped with either the Luxemburg norm or the Orlicz norm, and \(C\) is a convex bounded set of \(X\) which is compact for the topology of convergence locally in measure. Let \(T\) be a mapping from \(C\) into itself. Using the idea of Opial modulus [\textit{P.-K. Lin, K.-K. Tan} and \textit{H. K. Xu}, Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl. 24, No. 6, 929-946 (1995; Zbl 0865.47040)] and a fixed point theorem due to the first author of this paper and \textit{H.-K. Xu} [ibid. 25, No. 3, 311-325 (1995; Zbl 0830.47041)], the authors show that an asymptotically regular mapping \(T\) has a fixed point under some additional conditions. Some good special cases are also discussed. The importance of the main result may be realized from the fact that ``The result of Thorem 4 is not true if we just require that \(C\) is a weakly compact convex set''.
