    The authors consider a class of systems of two superlinear differential equations \[ -\ddot u(t) = {\partial E(u,v)\over\partial u}(t), \tag{1} \] \[ -\ddot v(t) = {\partial E(u,v)\over\partial v}(t), \tag{2} \] with \(E\in C^2(\mathbb{R}^2;\mathbb{R})\), \(\lim_{u^2+v^2 \rightarrow \infty} {E(u,v)\over u^2+v^2} = +\infty\), with the Dirichlet boundary conditions \[ u(A)=u(B)=0, \qquad v(A)=v(B)=0. \tag{3} \] They give a generalization of the Nehari variational method in order to obtain oscillating solutions. More precisely, they find conditions on \(E\) which guarantee that for every pair of integers \((h,k)\) there exist at least four pairs \((u_i,v_i)\), \(1\leq i \leq 4\), of solutions to (1)--(3) such that each \(u_i\) has exactly \(h-1\) simple zeros and each \(v_i\) has exactly \(k-1\) simple zeros on \((A,B)\).
