The concept of tensor product \(\otimes \) was introduced for semilattices by J. Anderson, N. Kimura and G. A. Fraser in 1968 or 1976, respectively. The present authors give a survey on tensor products of lattices with zero and related constructions focusing on two topics: amenable lattices and box products. A lattice \(A\) is amenable if \(A\otimes B\) is a lattice for every lattice \(B\) with 0. A semilattice \(A\) is sharply transferable whenever \(A\) has an embedding \(\varphi \) into the ideal lattice of some lattice \(L\), then \(A\) has an embedding \(\psi \) into \(L\) satisfying \(\psi(x) \in \varphi(x)\) and \(\psi(x) \not \in \varphi(y)\) for \(y<x\). A finite lattice \(A\) is amenable iff \(A\) (as a join-semilattice) is sharply transferable. The developed methods are applied in the so-called Independence Theorems.
