The author considerably improves results by \textit{P. Wong} [Pac. J. Math. 159, No. 1, 153-175 (1993; Zbl 0739.55001)] on the least number of fixed points of a map \(f:X\to X\) for a \(G\)-space \(X\). In what follows \(X\) is supposed to be a compact connected equivariantly triangulable topological space with a simplicial action of a finite group \(G\). An isotropy type for \(X\) is the conjugacy class \((H)\) of the isotropy group \(H=G_x\) of some point \(x\in X\). A \(G\)-space \(X\) is said to have controllable path orbit types (CPOT for short) if the homomorphism \(\pi_1(X_H)\to\pi_1(X^{H})\) is surjective for any isotropy type \((H)\). The space \(X\) is said to satisfy the equivariant Jiang condition if for any isotropy type \((H)\) we have that (1) there exists a one-simplex \(\sigma\) in \(X_H\) which is a face of at least three two-simplices in \(X_H\). (2) The orbit of \(\sigma\) under the Weyl group \(WH\) consists of simplices with disjoint closed stars. (3) For each point \(x\in X_H\) there is a path joining \(x\) to some \(g\sigma\) where \(g\in WH\). (4) \(X^{H}\) has no locally separating points. If \(X\) is as above satisfying CPOT and the equivariant Jiang condition then it is shown that any equivariant self-map of \(X\) is \(G\)-homotopic to a \(G\)-map with fixed point set consisting of at most one \(G\)-orbit for each isotropy type. Moreover, the author gives a sharp estimate for the number of fixed points and fixed orbits in terms of Nielsen type numbers.
