In this paper, the method based on the Poincaré map \(\Phi\) on a surface of section is used for the computation of an individual member of a family of periodic orbits of a given period, even in cases where the orbit is asymmetric and/or highly periodic. The application of the method has been done to the photogravitational restricted circular three-body problem. The proposed method based on the characteristic polyedron concept for the computation of periodic orbits. First, the method exploits topological degree theory to provide a criterion for the existence of a periodic orbit within a given region of the phase space of the system. Then is constructed a characteristic polyedron containing this orbit and the generalized bisection method is used to calculate iteratively the orbit with predetermined accuracy. The paper is, clearly, written and the proposed method is comprehensible.
