The authors investigate the magnetoelastic bending and buckling of a rectangular ferromagnetic plate placed in an external, initially uniform magnetic field. Starting with an expression for the total energy of the system (plate+field) and with the use of variational principles, the set of fundamental field equations is obtained, together with the corresponding boundary conditions to describe the magnetoelastic interaction. The model is fundamentally nonlinear, since the boundary conditions are set on the a priori unknown deformed surface, and the magnetization of the plate is field dependent. A finite element scheme is proposed to solve the problem and a special case is considered for a concrete form of the magnetization dependence on the field and for different settings of the initial magnetic field. The obtained numerical results are thoroughly analyzed.
