This book discusses C. S. Pierce's later work on logic, meaning, and communication, explains his method of existential graphs, and relates his views to those of Wittgenstein, Grice, and Hintikka. It benefits from recent scholarly work on Pierce's unpublished manuscripts. It is a pity that it does not relate his work to that of later writers on meaning in the pragmatic tradition, particularly that of \textit{Robert B. Brandom} [Making it explicit. Cambridge, MA: Harvard Univ. Press (1994)].
