Analogues of Sprindzhuk's conjectures on the extremality of real manifolds are established in local fields of positive characteristic, a natural setting for Diophantine approximation. The original conjectures, which concerned the extremality of real non-degenerate manifolds, were solved comprehensively in the real case by \textit{D. Y. Kleinbock} and \textit{G. A. Margulis} using new and powerful dynamical systems techniques [``Flows on homogeneous spaces and Diophantine approximation on manifolds'', Ann. Math. (2) 148, No. 1, 339--360 (1998; Zbl 0922.11061)]. The author extends the dynamical systems results underlying their proof to local fields of positive characteristic and goes on to prove the corresponding analogues of Sprindzhuk's conjectures. Some interesting further questions as to the analogues of known results and problems in more general settings are posed.
