Let \(F_q\) be a finite field of characteristic \(p\equiv -1 \bmod d\) and \(f(x)\) a polynomial of the form \(f(x)=x^d+ax^{d-1}\in F_q[x]\) with \(a\in F_q^*\). In the case that \(p\) is sufficiently large with respect to \(d\) (of order of magnitude at least \(d^2\)) the authors determine the slopes of the \(q\)-adic Newton polygons of \(L\)-functions for \(f(x)\) with respect to finite characters.
