    This paper is concerned with a model for chemotaxis in a bacteria- substrate mixture introduced by \textit{E. F. Keller} and \textit{L. A. Segel} [J. Theor. Biol. 30, 235-248 (1971)]. The simplified Keller-Segel model is described by \[ (\partial b/\partial t)=(\partial/\partial x)[\mu(\partial b/\partial x)-b\chi(s)(\partial s/\partial x)],\qquad (\partial s/\partial t)=D(\partial^ 2s/\partial x^ 2)-kb, \] where \(\chi(s)=\delta/s\), \(\mu,\delta,k>0\) and \(D\geq 0\). In the case \(D>0\) the existence of traveling wave solutions is proved and the instability of travelling waves is discussed.
