The paper deals with the following boundary value problem, derived from the Navier-Stokes equations, \[ f^{\prime\prime\prime\prime}-2ff'''=0 \quad (-1<x<1) \tag{1} \] with boundary conditions either \[ f(\pm 1)=0, f'(\pm 1)=R, \tag{2} \] or \[ f(-1)=-R,\quad f(1)=R,\quad f'(\pm 1)=0, \tag{3} \] where prime implies the differentiation and \(R\) is a real parameter. It is proved that: (i) the boundary value problem (1), (2) has a family of solutions in which an interior layer appears at \(x=0\) as Reynolds number \(R\to+\infty\) and boundary layers appear at \(x=\pm 1\) as \(R\to-\infty.\) (ii) the boundary value problem (1), (3) has a family of solutions in which an interior layer appears at \(x=0\) as \(R\to-\infty\) and boundary layers appear at \(x=\pm 1\) as \(R\to+\infty.\)
