Weak solutions to \(\Delta x=2H(x)x_ u\wedge x_ v\) in a domain \(\Omega \subset {\mathbb{R}}^ 2\) are proved to belong to \(C^ 0(\Omega)\) and \(C^{2,\mu}(\Omega)\), if \(H(x)=H_ 1(x)+H_ 2(x)\), \(H_ i,\nabla H_ i\in L^{\infty}({\mathbb{R}}^ 3) (i=1,2)\), and the conditions \(\sup_{{\mathbb{R}}^ 3}| x\nabla H_ 1(x)| <\infty\), \(\sup_{| x| >K}| xH_ 2(x)| <1\) are satisfied. Using the special structure of the system, the Courant-Lebesgue lemma, and the isoperimetric inequality, first continuity is achieved a.e. in \(\Omega\), then regularity throughout \(\Omega\). Moreover, weak solutions to the corresponding Dirichlet problem are shown to be bounded and continuous in \({\bar \Omega}\), if the boundary data are assumed to be bounded and continuous, respectively.
