Variation and Minkowski dimension of fractal interpolation surface (Q931001)

The author studies here the variance and Minkowski dimension of the general fractal interpolation surface on the rectangular domains. He discusses the conditions of continuity of the surface as an invariant set of the fractal interpolation surface. The concepts of the oscillation and variance of a bivariate continuous function are studied and some properties of the variance are proved. He further estimates the variance of the bivariate fractal interpolation function. He also gives some examples for illustrating the bivariate fractals interpolating and the calculation of the Minkowski dimension of the fractal interpolation surface.
