The author studies intertwinings of pairs \((S,T)\) of measure space transformations. The measures in question are shift invariant and the intertwinings are thought of as codes. \(S\) and \(T\) respect the relation of almost equality whence the theory of Part I (review above) associates von Neumann algebra automorphisms \(\alpha_ S\), \(\alpha_ T\) with them. A code is called a strict conjugation if it induces an isomorphism between the corresponding relations of almost equality; in this case \(\alpha_ S\), \(\alpha_ T\) are conjugate automorphisms. The main results and examples of the paper examine the continuity properties of codes and their relations to strict conjugation. It is shown that finitary codes with finite expected code length induce strict conjugations. Application is made to the study of ergodic group actions on the 2-torus.
