The Dold-Kan theorem states that a simplicial abelian group can be rebuilt, up to isomorphism, from its Moore complex. It is also well known that simplicial groups model all connected homotopy types and that the homology groups of the Moore complex are the homotopy groups of its corresponding type. Thus, the study of the Moore complex of a simplicial group occupy an important place in the study of its homotopy type. In this paper a variant of the Carrasco-Cegarra pairing operators [\textit{P. Carrasco} and \textit{A. M. Cegarra}, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 75, No. 3, 195-235 (1991; Zbl 0742.55003)] is developed to give a set of generators of the group \(N_n\cap D_n \subset G_n\), where \(N_n\) is the \(n\)th group of the Moore complex of a simplicial group \(G\) and \(D_n\) is the subgroup of \(G_n\) generated by the degenerate elements. An application for calculating the homotopy groups of the suspension of an Eilenberg-Mac Lane space is shown. Some others applications of the main result of this paper were described by the authors [\textit{A. Mutlu} and \textit{T. Porter}, Theory Appl. Categ. 4, 148-173 (1998; Zbl 0917.18006)]. Similar results for simplicial commutative algebras have been obtained by \textit{Z. Arvasi} and \textit{T. Porter} [Theory Appl. Categ. 3, No. 1, 1-23 (1997; Zbl 0874.18011)].
