Let \(f\) be a nonzero tensor field of type \((s,s)\) on a manifold \(M\) such that \(f^k+(-1)^{k+s} f=0\), \(f^w+(-1)^{w+s} f\neq 0\) for \(1<w<k\), where \(k\) is a fixed integer greater than 2. An \(F\)-structure manifold is a manifold \(M\) endowed with such a tensor of constant rank. Let \(\widetilde M\) be a submanifold of \(M\) and \(\psi:\widehat M\to M\) its embedding, \(B=d\psi\). \(\widetilde M\) is called an invariant submanifold if (i) for each \(p\in\psi (\widetilde M)\) \(f\) leaves the tangent space \(T_p(\psi (\widetilde M))\) invariant, and (ii) \(f^{k-s\over 2}(B\widetilde X)=B\widetilde X'\) for each \(\widetilde X\in T (\widetilde M)\). The main result of the paper states that an invariant submanifold \(\widetilde M\) is an almost complex manifold if (i) the distribution \(D_m\) is never tangent to \(\psi(\widetilde M)\), where \(m=I+(-1)^{k +s}f^{k-s}\), and (ii) the \((s,s)\) tensor \(\widetilde f\) of \(\widetilde M\) defined by \(\widetilde f(\widetilde X)= \widetilde X'\) defines an induced almost complex structure satisfying \(\widetilde f^{k-s}=(-1)^kI\). Some results concerning integrability conditions are also proved.
