    In 1968, \textit{T. Honda} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 233, 101-102 (1968; Zbl 0165.06501)] proved that the class number of the quadratic number field \(K = {\mathbb Q}(\sqrt{4x^3-27n^2})\) is divisible by \(3\) if \(K\) has degree \(2\), if \(z^3 - xz + n\) is irreducible over \({\mathbb Q}(z)\), and if \((x,3n) = 1\). In this article, this result is generalized as follows: let \(k\) be a number field with algebraic closure \(\overline{k}\), \(n \in k\) a nonzero algebraic integer, and \(f(x) = 4x^3 - 27n^2\); consider the map \(x\) from the group \(E(\overline{k})\) of \(\overline{k}\)-rational points on the elliptic curve \(E: y^2 = f(x)\) to the projective line \({\mathbb P}^1 \overline{k}\), and let \(X\) denote the set of all \(\xi \in k\) such that \(z^3 - \xi z + n\) is irreducible over \(k[z]\) and \(\text{ ord}_{\mathfrak p}(\xi) \leq 0\) for all prime ideals \({\mathfrak p}\) dividing \(3n\); then the class number of the field \(k(P)\) is divisible by \(3\) for any \(P \in x^{-1}(X)\). Asymptotic formulas for the number of such points \(P\) are also given.
