This paper deals with statements which provide a new solution to the ``Isbell problem''. In 1964 Isbell claimed in his book, entitled ``Uniform spaces'', that given two compatible uniformities on a set \(X\), if they differ this implies the corresponding Hausdorff uniform hypertopologies differ, too. Then the problem of giving a condition that could characterize equality arose and is called the ``Isbell problem'' or ``Isbell-Smith problem'' , respectively. By given two compatible metrics on a metrizable space \(X\) it is well known that they give rise to the same Hausdorff hypertopologies on the collection of all closed subsets of \(X\) iff they are uniformly equivalent. ``This is no longer true for the lower Hausdorff hypertopology''. ``Indeed a weaker condition is needed being found by Costantini and Vitolo''. This paper generalizes this result to the uniform case, and therefore it provides a new solution to the ``Isbell problem''.
