This paper gives a purely real-analytic proof of results of \textit{D. R. Heath-Brown} (Theorem 14 from [Ann. Math. (2) 155, No. 2, 553--598 (2002; Zbl 1039.11044)]) and \textit{N. Broberg} (Theorem 1 from [J. Reine Angew. Math. 571, 159--178 (2004; Zbl 1053.11027)]), using the determinant method of \textit{E. Bombieri} and \textit{J. Pila} [Duke Math. J. 59, No. 2, 337--357 (1989; Zbl 0718.11048)]. This is the same method used by Heath-Brown and Broberg; the novelty of the paper under review is that the techniques are purely real-analytic. The main result of the paper is as follows (from the introduction): Theorem 1.1: Let \(X\subset\mathbb{A}_{\mathbb{R}}^n\) be an irreducible closed subvariety of dimension \(m\) and degree \(d\). Let \(I=I(X)\subset\mathbb{R}[x_1,\dots,x_n]\) be the ideal of \(X\). Then, for any \(\varepsilon>0\), there exists a polynomial \(g\in\mathbb{Z}[x_1,\dots,x_n]\setminus I\) of degree \(k\), with \[ k\ll_{n,d,\varepsilon} B^{md^{-1/m}+\varepsilon}, \] all of whose irreducible factors have degree \(O_{n,d,\varepsilon}(1)\), such that \(g(\mathbf{x})=0\) for each \(\mathbf{x}\in X(\mathbb{Z},B)\).
