Let \(g\) be a smooth Riemannian or pseudo-Riemannian metric on a \(2\)-dimensional disc. Denote by \(p(g)\) the Lie algebra of projective vector fields with respect to \(g\). The following two problems were posed by Sophus Lie in 1882: I) find all \(g\) such that \(\dim(p(g))=1\); II) find all \(g\) such that \(\dim(p(g))\geq 2\). The second problem of Lie was solved by \textit{R. L. Bryant}, \textit{G. Manno} and \textit{V. S. Matveev} in [Math. Ann. 340, No. 2, 437--463 (2008; Zbl 1144.53025)]. The present paper gives a complete solution of the first problem. This article has an Appendix of Alexey V. Bolsinov, Vladimir S. Matveev and Giuseppe Pucacco.
