Let \(R\) be a ring with the multiplicative identity \(1\), and let \(R^{D}\) be the set of all Drazin invertible elements in \(R\). The unique Drazin inverse of \(a \in R^{D}\) is denoted by \(a^{D}\). Let \(a ,b \in R^{D}\) with \(a^{2}b =aba\) and \(b^{2}a =bab\). The authors show that then \(ab \in R^{D}\) and \((ab)^{D} =a^{D}b^{D}\), and that \(a +b \in R^{D}\) if and only if \(1 +a^{D}b \in R^{D}\). Moreover, the formulae for \((a +b)^{D}\) and \((1 +a^{D}b)^{D}\) are presented, for example \((1 +a^{D}b)^{D} =a^{\pi } +a^{2}a^{D}(a +b)^{D}\) where \(a^{\pi } =1 -aa^{D}\) is the spectral idempotent of \(a\). The paper has three sections. In Section 2, the authors prove several lemmas which are then used in Section 3, where the main results are presented and proved.
