The monograph focuses on modeling and processing uncertainty represented in the framework of interval-valued fuzzy sets. The evident presence of uncertain data in various endeavors delivers sound motivation behind the study. The book is coherently structured and the material is self-contained to a significant extent with a clearly accentuated focus on formal investigations. The material is structured into four chapters. Chapter 1 serves as a concise introduction to fuzzy sets recalling the generic concepts and those associated with extensions of fuzzy sets (\(L\)-fuzzy sets, interval fuzzy sets, intuitionistic sets). Interval-valued fuzzy relations are covered in Chapter 2. Here a suite of pertinent conceptual and algorithmic topics is covered including basic operations on relations, their compositions, and properties. The presentation of various application areas, albeit exposed in a bit sketchy manner, helps the reader gain a good sense as to the role of interval fuzzy sets when being applied to decision-making processes, mechanisms of approximate reasoning, and prediction. Chapter 4 offers a summary along with a collection of open problems. In sum, the volume serves as a sound material on selected topics of interval-valued fuzzy sets, which could appeal to those interested in studies on generalized constructs of fuzzy sets.
