Let \(M=T^2\) be a smooth closed manifold with fixed norm \(\| \cdot\|\) on \(TM\). The author studies such diffeomorphisms \(f\) on \(M\), having a dominated splitting \(TM=E^u_f\oplus E^s_f\) on the whole manifold \(M\), so-called protectively Anosov splitting (PA splitting). The invariants of two dimensional \(C^2\) PA diffeomorphisms are defined by the topology of the space of circles tangent to an invariant subbundle and are preserved under homotopy of the PA diffeomorphism. Let \(S^1\) denote the circle and \(C^1(S^1,T^2)\) be the space of \(C^1\) maps from \(S^1\) to \(T^2\) with the \(C^1\) topology and \(\text{Diff}_+^1(S^1)\) the group of orientation-preserving diffeomorphisms of \(S^1\). Let us put \(\widetilde{\mathcal C}(E^u_f)=\{\gamma\in C^1(S^1,T^2)\); \(\dot\gamma (t)\in E^u_f(\gamma(t))\setminus \{0\}\) for any \(t\in S^1\}\) and \({\mathcal C}(E^u_f)=\widetilde{\mathcal C}(E^u_f)/\text{Diff}^1_+(S^1)\). Then one of the main results is the following: Let \(f_0\) and \(f_1\) be \(C^2\) PA diffeomorphisms on \(T^2\) which are orientable, nondegenerate and mutually PA homotopic. Then the pointed spaces \(({\mathcal C}_a(E^u_{f_0}) \cup\{\infty \},\infty)\) and \(({\mathcal C}_a(E^u_{f_1})\cup\{\infty\}, \infty)\) have the same homotopy type for any prime homology class \(a\in H_1(T^2,Z)\).
