The authors construct a superconvergent biquadratic finite volume element method for 2D Poisson's equations by using optimal stress points of biquadratic interpolation as the vertices of a control volume. They write the biquadratic finite volume element scheme in tensor product form and solve that by an alternating direction technique. They discuss the optimal \(H^1\) semi-norm and \(L^2\) norm error estimates and prove that the scheme has optimal energy norm error estimates. They also obtain, superconvergence results, including numerical gradients at optimal stress points and displacements at nodal points. A numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the method.
