It is easy to see that the Simpson's rule is a convex combination of the midpoint and trapezoidal ones (with the coefficients 2/3 and 1/3, respectively). Corrected midpoint and trapezoidal quadrature rules taken with the same coefficients lead to the Simpson's rule again (not to the corrected Simpson's rule). That is why the convex combination of the above mentioned corrected quadratures with the other coefficients is proposed and considered. It is called the corrected Simpson's rule. The composite quadrature is built on it. The authors propose a result unifying the estimation of the errors of the composite midpoint, trapezoidal and Simpson's rules. Notice that the same bounds were proved separately by the other authors, which is mentioned at the end of the paper.
