The article gives a survey on some trends in modern operational calculus. It begins with the abstract Taylor formula and shows its application for the solution of both initial and boundary value problems. Especially, convolution and factorization methods are refered. Functional analytic methods are demonstrated by means of instationary iteration methods, which provide us by the way with approximative solutions. There is a close connection to the modern algebraic multigrid methods and to further computational aspects in the framework of finite or discrete operational calculus as asymptotic questions concerning the numerical stability and the fast Fourier transform or several number theoretic transforms.
