The author shows that a particular set of functions related to the controllability of the heat equation with memory and finite signal speed with a suitable kernel is a Riesz system. Usually Riesz systems are used in applied mathematics for solving inverse problems. The proof provides a real construction of the control which steers the initial datum to the prescribed target.
