The authors study forced and free convection flow past a spherical particle by employing Chebyshev-Legendre spectral method. Full Navier- Stokes equations are used. It is observed that effects of natural convection are dominant in the wake where the flow structure is changed. The overall Nusselt number and the drag coefficient show an increase or decrease in magnitude depending on whether gravity-induced flow aids or opposes the main flow. When the buouancy and the free-stream are in the same direction, the effects are less pronounced than when they are in the opposite direction.
